In Memoriam
Forrest "Fess" Green

Fess Green died April 29 from injuries sustained in a bicycle-motor vehicle accident which, ironically, occurred only yards from the entrance to Wildwood.  Fess was a true friend of Wildwood Park.  He served as chair of Pathway's Wildwood Park Committee, and was instrumental in the planning for improvements to the entrance.  Recently he helped submit a grant application to fund these improvements.  If the grant is funded, the new entranceway will be a fitting memorial to Fess.

Fess recruited the Radford University business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi to adopt Wildwood Park.  The picture at left was taken last March as the fraternity worked on the trails; the full picture is shown below.  It is fitting that Fess has a tool in the photograph, for he put in much sweat equity in the Park, building the Grand Staircase and many of the east side trails himself, aided by volunteer labor he recruited.  More than anyone else, Fess truly gave himself to the Park.

Fess cared about Wildwood and he cared about Pathways, and he cared about his friends.  All of us who love Wildwood will miss Fess.  Inasmuch as it possible for flowers and trees and birds to miss a person, Wildwood Park will miss Fess Green.
