Downy Rattlesnake Plantain,  Goodyera pubescens
Orchidaceae or Orchis Family

Low plant with a dense cylindrical spike of tiny white, irregular shaped flowers, and a basal rosette of oval leaves with fine white veins.  Blooms in mid-summer.

Native.  Wildwood's only orchid.  It prefers shady woodlands, so look for it on the wooded sides of the Park.

Even when not blooming, it is easily recognized by the whiter veins on the leaves.  Several rarer relatives are similar, but have not been reported in Wildwood.
