Gill Over the Ground or Ground Ivy, Glechoma hederacea |
|||||
A creeping, spreading plant with blue-violet, irregular,
trumpet-shaped flowers in leafy clusters. Leaves opposite on stem,
heart shaped, with scalloped edges. Blooms from early spring into
early summer. A weed of waste places. Occasional along the Riverway and Wildwood Drive. Somewhat resembles purple dead nettle (Lamium purpureum), but that plant has smaller, red-purple flowers and purplish upper leaves. |
