Branch

Tall tree with single trunk. Bark reddish-black with horizontal stripes. Leaves egg-shaped, toothed, pointed. Flowers white, showy, with five petals. Blooms in spring. Cherries juicy, edible, tasty, red turning black at maturity. Fruits in summer.

An alien tree, spreading from cultivation. In Wildwood possibly persisting from earlier plantings. A number of individuals can be found on the eastern slope of the Park, towards the upper sections.

Black cherry has similar flowers and smaller fruits, but in long clusters.
