Tall, erect plant with spike of purple flowers. Flowers
irregular, with 5 lobes in front and a spur in the back, blue to purple.
Leaves deeply divided into narrow lobes arranged like
the fingers of a hand. Blooms in
summer.
Lovely native of open woods and on rocky slopes. In the Park, common in shady areas along the Bikeway and along the woodland edges.
Dwarf larkspur (D. tricorne) is
shorter, has larger flowers, and blooms in the spring in shady woodlands. |
