Wood Anemone, Anemone quinqefolia

Low erect herb, Three leaves, each with three leaflets.  Leaflets toothed and irregularly cleft into lobes.  Flowers with five (plus or minus) white, petal-like sepals

Native woodland plant.  Rare in Wildwood.

Rue anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides) has more and rounder sepals and distinctive leaves.  Thimbleweed (Anemone virginiana) is much taller, with smaller, greenish-white flowers.  Mountain anemone (Anemome lancifolia) is similar, but has leaves evenly toothed, without clefts; it has not been reported from the Park.
