Wood Anemone, Anemone quinqefolia
Ranunculaceae or Buttercup Family
Low erect herb, Three leaves, each with three leaflets. Leaflets
toothed and irregularly cleft into lobes. Flowers with
five (plus or minus) white, petal-like sepals
Native woodland plant. Rare in Wildwood.
Rue anemone (Thalictrum
thalictroides) has more and rounder sepals and distinctive
leaves. Thimbleweed (Anemone
virginiana) is much taller, with smaller, greenish-white
flowers. Mountain anemone (Anemome lancifolia) is
similar, but has leaves evenly toothed, without clefts; it has
not been reported from the Park. |
