Step 5. Are the lobes palmate or pinnate?
Palmate lobes radiate outwards from the center like the fingers of your hand. A maple leaf is a good example.
Pinnate lobes are on either side of the leaf, like the branches on a feather (Latin pinna means feather). An oak leaf is a good example.
