Low trailing or climbing vine. Leaves divided into
many leaflets
that are not opposite each other along the main rib. Leaflets are
elongated ovals. Last leaflet replaced with tendril that can wrap
around other plants to assist Carolina vetch in climbing. Flowers
white or bluish-white, shaped like a narrow pea flower. Fruits
flattened peapods.
Occasional in the woods, and along trails and
roads.
Distinctive, easily identified plant. Narrow-leaved vetch has branching tendrils
and pink-violet flowers, and grows in open, sunny areas.
