Tall, erect plant, 2 to 6 feet. Upper leaves narrow, coarsely toothed. Lower leaves somewhat broader, similarly toothed. Flowers in a long spike at the top of the stem, light blue to lavender, star-shaped, with a white ring and long protruding stamens. Blooms in summer

Charming native of moist thickets and woodlands. In Wildwood occasional on the western slope, especially in the woods near the powerline crossing.

The blue, star-shaped flowers are distinctive. The alien creeping bellflower has bell-shaped flowers and likes sunnier places.
